Soil water budget, helps us budget how much available water we have (what comes in must equal what goes out. ) Interception: is precipitation that strikes vegetation and is intercepted. 2 y groundwater is the largest freshwater source in the world (larger than all lakes). Groundwater begins as surplus water that percolates downward. This excess surface water moves through the zone of aeration where soil and rock are less than saturated.
