Document Summary
Mass movement and soils: rockfalls and debris avalanches. In a rockfall, the rock falls and then breaks into debris o: a debris avalance an amount of already debris rocks flows/falls together to the bottom of a slope, landslides. These are faster thab lnadslides: land moves downwards, not just rocks and debris- slower than rockfalls, less moisture than a mudlfow. Translational slide- like steps or stairs, for much of its slide it is horizontal; follows the slops of the hill rotates as it slides downhill: earthflows. Rotational slide- along a concave surface- the land itself moves around or: more fluid than landlsildes (high moisture content). Often caused by heavu rains: mudflows, more fluid than earthflows, soil creep, slow movement of soil downhill, solifluction, soil liquifies and flows slowly down he slope. Can happen with thermafrost- gelafluction: scarification, human indiced movement of soil. The organic layer is always on top, usually the darkest.
