Carbon storage in intact ecosystems: a hedge against climate change. Co2 is stored in giant trees: keeps co2 out of atmosphere as long as tree is alive, when tree dies, co2 is let out very slowly. On the other hand if we cut the tree down and burnt it all the carbon would be released. Global warming: because of combustion of fossil fuels (cars, heating, etc. : but at the same time, the reason why we have global warming is because we are cutting down all the ancient temperate forests. Have iconic animals in bc: grizzly bears. Need really big habitats: cougars, wolves. Species used to roam as far south as mexico. Because of human impacts range reduced to only north-western parts of canada: mostly found in bc.
