Painting should be related to the world as we see it. There were 2 painters and there was a contest to see who was the best painter. One painted realistic grapes where birds were deceived while the other painted a curtain where the other painter was deceived. Human being was enticed by the thing that wasn"t present, the promise of what was behind the curtain. (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Artists are able to provide multiple layers of reality with their ability as painters. What do we see: his head is covered in shadow, in a space where the painting is not in. Created depth: his book is almost tipped out, curtin with rod. Created a picture that had a realistic relationship with space. (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) A desire to create pictures that look really realistic.
