When you reveal what is being communicated some how it loses its power. There is some deep sense in which certain kinds of representation is problematic. Not about criminological claims being misleading, its about certain fundamental imagery being criticisable in creating truth related problems. In ideology analysis you would identify particular observation and that it is false. Would also point out that it makes society seem fairer than it is. We can"t think without myths, they are idea structures. In our communications we often allude to deep mythic structures. Become conventional to build that on ideas from 1920s linguistics, but now have been taken up by media studies: professor v uses concepts from semiotic analysis- analysis of sign systems. Fernand de sours did not publish these ideas. He believed that linguistics had misunderstood what its foundational principles should be. Very complex study of shifting nature of concepts and meaning.
