They also compared lesion size after tmv infection between buffer-pretreated and tmv pretreated plants, with big lesion size indicating absence of sar, and small lesion size indicating sar induction. In the transgenic lines that had high nahg levels, sa levels were low. This made sense because nahg metabolizes sa and prevents sa accumulation. In the control, there was a high level of sa, and tmv pretreated plants had lower lesion sizes compared to buffer pretreated, meaning that sar occurred in these plants.
