Greek and roman marriages are not sacred ceremonies. Adultery was still an issue but not because you are violating a sacred bond but because you were violating someone else"s pro perty. The father would say i pledge so and so for producing children and the groom would say i accept this pledge. The woman would not be consulted - often she wouldnt have even met the guy. Transfer of the woman to the household of the bridegroom. The dowry is usually given at the first stage: the engye. Women wouldnt inherit anything after the father died. The husband would manage the dowry but if they divorced he would need to return it. A couple has only female children no sons. If you are aware you probs wont have a son t hen you could adopt one but he would have to marry one of her daughters. Epikleros: heiress (is a term designating the girl).
