(needs to be purified because he"s a danger to community, etc) he"s driven to exile. Proteus, king of tiryns = taken in by the king. The wife of proteus fell in love with bellerophon but he rejects her. She accuses him of rape in revenge. Bellerophon across the aegean sea to iobates, king of lycia (father in law) So he sends bellerophon on a quest (so his blood won"t be on his hands) Crime atonement purification - quest. Quest: kill the chimera: has a head of the lion. He defeats her by throwing the lead pellets from the air, it gets stuck in her throat and chokes to death. Bellerophon goes back to iobates who sends him to other quests, trying to get him killed.
