Document Summary

Review questions on bb: calculation at end of lecture. Atp synthase and binding: atp export, p/o ratios and water formation. Examine how protons flow through atp synthase in order to generate atp due to a conformational change in protein structure. Define the p/o ratio for nadh and fadh2 --> donates electrons to the transport chain. Calculate the number of atps and waters produced from glucose or other molecules. Impermeable inner membrane where all the proteins exist --> must be intact. Recall that nadh was donating electrons to complex i as e- are moving from one complex to another, the redox potential changes so four protons are pumped out of this complex. When electrons are passed to iv, 2 protons are pumped out. Electrons are passed from i to iii to iv. You need about 4 protons for every atp that is made. Induces conformational change in atp synthase to create atp with the substrates.
