Carbohydrates are essential for the body but get a bad rep in the media. Wheat, glucose, sugar --> these are all carbohydrates. Recall glycophorin a that has a lot of sugar chains on the amino acids. No need to know the exact sugars, just know that it"s different. These are oligosaccharides bc there"s different ones present. Conformation of sugar is vital for its ability to bind to targets in body or be recog by antibodies.
