Document Summary

Technocratic, inhumane, meaningless: developed outside of the modern world and an act of critique against arch. Oscar niemeyer, communist party: a very modern building but also oscar niemeyer, has sculptural elements such as entranceway, furniture. Yamasaki: also the arch of the former world trade centre, demolished in 1970s, all looks the same. This image shows why modern arch is criticized as being inhumane. Aldo van eyck, orphanage: building with housing, paid attention to the threshold of inside to outside and made a series. In every sense this was opposite to large scale modernism of borders in and around the building. There is no hierarchy to these buildings, no important part that can be de ned. Hertzberger: no hierarchy inside or outside the building. Do not see the important part of the building: was not about hard work in small cubicles but about human interaction. Lifting the houses up gives you a view of the land.
