It is a historical concept, not an abstract general formula (it makes sense only when it is properly contextualized: accumulation of wealth is conjoined with an absence of interest in worldly. Capitalism is not mere greed/hedonism; not satisfaction from material pleasures goods. An ethos; requires self-discipline: the protestant ethic, the notion of a calling. To heaven, from god, religious calling to practice: this-worldly asceticism. For when asceticism carried out of monastic cells into everyday life and began to dominate worldly morality, it did its part in building the tremendous cosmos of the modern economic order. (p. 55) Secularization: marginalization/privatization of religion in public sphere, separation of church and state (religion and politics, decline of religion, not necessarily; religion becomes more accessible to the common people. Csordas: globalization and, of, as religion, relationships between the two, the spread of religion on a global level, multidirectional embeddedness of the two, globalization of religion, what travels well across geographical and cultural space.
