Industrial revolution: began in 1760 in england - continues in some emerging markets today. Means of production include machines and factories. Wage labour: people = working for hourly wage (usually) Among classes - upward mobility or downward mobility = ideally possible, but not easy. Industrialists/investors/bankers - the high bourgeoisie or capitalists - the upper class. Originated mainly among townsfolk of agricultural period. Middle class: divided into upper (i. e. doctors, lawyers) and lower (white-colour) Working class: largest class in industrial (as opposed to post-industrial) society. Originated among former peasants (went to town to work in factories because they couldn"t work on their farms anymore - lost land/were not needed) Working class organizations (unions, socialism): learned to exert pressure on politics, etc.
