Basic structure that reproduces societal values: there have been continuous concerns over perceived dangers of weakening or changing family ties. Includes concerns over shifts or changes in the makeup of the family: the family has often been glorified as safe and a key site to the production of well- adjusted citizens. Can also be a site of significant violence. Traditional nuclear family: husband works outside the home for money and wife woks without pay in the home: key features: same as nuclear but more male-dominated and single earner household, not the norm anymore but. Women are still discriminated paid less, hired less often, considered to be unreliable, emotions, bias against women and potential pregnancy. Gendered labour persists they do more at home still. Now there is more variance; single parent family, same sex family, no children, etc. because people are more free to make those choices.
