Document Summary

Personality 3 component: core human nature (sets of mechanism and processes on how we operate [biologically]), individual differences in the core nature (variability), uniqueness (all variability combination is unique mode of adaptation to environment) Personality may predict behaviour, predict life outcomes; personality = consequence. Personality measured through correlation methods due to the inability to randomly assign personalities. The dimensions are more or less independent with the extreme minimal overlapping. Extraversion -> positive affect, neuroticism -> negative affect; both are distinct (not a scale) Happiness and subjective well-being affective component (high pa, low na), cognitive component (high life satisfaction) Extraversion and neuroticism -> strongest predictor of pa and na. Agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness -> weaker predictor of subjective well-being. Linked to environmental rewards and punishment; being nice = reciprocity = feel good about self. Physical health and longevity -> predict extraversion and conscientiousness -> longevity, hostility (low agreeableness) - > health.
