Negative view on emotions; if you have too much of them it can make you sick. Even too much happiness could cause you to be sick. E. g. , excessive anger causes qi to move upwards, impairs liver, causes headaches, while excessive joy relaxes qi, impairs the heart and results in weakness: ancient mesopotamia and egypt. Emotion expressed through art instead of faces. Animals had emotions, but humans didn"t have facial expressions. Wasn"t deemed appropriate for individuals to express emotions. Emotions are expressed through posture and touch: hippocrates (460 377 bce) Emphasis on the brain, not the heart. At this time people didn"t view the brain as important.
