PSYC14H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Walter Mischel, Social Dominance Orientation, Protestant Work Ethic
Document Summary
Culture and inner processes: cognition and perception: before we start, this small book was just published a couple weeks ago. It comes from an artist called yang liu, who was born in china and immigrated to germany when she was in her early teens. She was always struck by the differences between the two cultures, and eventually adopted a bi-cultural identity, part easterner part westerner. Social processes, personalities, emotions, etc. these concepts are fuzzy, arbitrary, vague, abstract. But c&p consists of the elementary and most fundamental processes that make up our psychological functioning and our mental lives. From a cultural differences perspective, we can reasonably think that there would be differences in how we interact, how we socialize, how we feel, and other such general behaviours. To learn that it affects our most basic level of mental functioning is remarkable.
