PSYB45H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Operant Conditioning, Classical Conditioning, Token Economy
Document Summary
Two main types of conditioning: respondent conditioning (classical/pavlovian) and operant conditioning (instrumental conditioning). Respondent behaviours: are elicited by prior stimuli and are not affected by their consequences. Fore example dog/human presented with steak and we salivate to food, then that is respondent behaviour. Operant behaviours: are modified by their consequences. For example reading more goal, and reading more due to being rewarded by eating cookies. Reading more is due to consequence, a reinforcement. Respondent conditioning is not a skill you develop, it"s about already established because they are reflexive behaviours. Pairing is involved, what"s new is response occurs to a new stimuli. Uc elicits a response with no prior learning such as food and salivation. Ur is salivation and is elicited by us. Cs is what is originally neutral (bell) then when we pair it with food for example over a number of pairings then elicits a reflexive response which is a cr (salivation).
