Somatic disorders are more common, more common than we think. A lot of physiological symptoms are misdiagnosed of medical illnesses. They require no physiological bases, a lot of family physicians are saying there are psychogenetic, they would prescribed antibiotics for them. Bodily symptoms that suggest a physical defect or dysfunction, but no physiological basis can be found. Treating someone with the psychogenetic disorder and not clear can hurt. Be mindful about, difference between dsm4 and dsm 5, read in the chapter we don"t use a lot of the terms. It has to be in distress and disability. That is what dsm 5 has done with somatic disorder. You are telling the person is not real and it is in their mind. The interpretation to the patient, your back doesn"t hurt it is all in your head; you are like saying they are lying. The belief of symptomology they are complaining about. You are taking away their excuse for their symptoms.
