Document Summary
Most people wanted to either benefit the ingroup maximally, or increase the difference between the two groups. Affect - prejudice (negative feelings about other groups) People nowadays are more willing to engage in benevolent stereotyping (positive beliefs) as well as negative stereotypes (they correlate positively with each other) People make a response as quickly as possible, an based on their response speed, we can infer what their beliefs are. Can predict behavior like how close one group member decides to sit beside another outgroup, or who to trust. When there are limited resources, groups tend to turn on each other (these resources could be religions, values, etc. ) Putting two hostile groups together to work together to solve a problem will decrease hostility (but only before hostility began) Self-identity theory - people think of their self image based on the social groups they are apart of.
