Document Summary
Aggression: any behavior aimed at causing either physical or psychological pain. Hostile aggression: aggression in which causing pain or harm is the only goal. This is mostly on inflicting pain on other for the sake of it. Instrumental aggression: aggression in which the pain or harm caused is a means to some other goal. Example, robbing a bank, winning a sport, self-defense. It is used to serve the person doing something else. Note: the two can be blended such as a dispute that started out over a hamburger and escalates above what"s reasonable to what is a common fight for something like a hamburger. Heat: higher temperatures are related to higher rates of aggression. More violent crimes occur in summer months. More acts of violence occur in cities that have higher average temperature. One study found that baseball pitchers are more likely to hit batters with the ball as the weather gets hotter.
