What is the difference between theory and empirical research give an example of each. Example of portkeys: foucault"s panopticon, arab spring: series of anti-governments protests, uprising and armed rebellions that spread across middle east in 2011. Examples of some countries with this movement are syria, egypt, yemen, and saudi. Old media and new media: media convergence: not only technology, also industries, genres, and audiences i. e. x-box, iphones, laptop. The digital world; from owning one single object, we extend to having multiple gadgets. The importance of owning technologies in our lives and the types of social media we connect through from them: participatory culture: fan culture, practices, and communities. Relevant to understand media and the study of fans: collective intelligence: communal reception, voluntary, temporary knowledge communities. Fans come together and share knowledge. (i. e. star wars) star. Wars fans sharing knowledge about the episodes of the films with each other through social media (i. e. reddit)
