Document Summary

Lecture 4- pragmatic analysis: pragmatic analysis of media focused on practicality, legislation, and regulation. This is a crucial distinction: key part of the pragmatic approach while they are looking for answers, these are all heled as provisional which is to say, they are open to change. These aren"t theorists that there is one and only answers. Pragmatic theory is being practical, has to acknowledge that not all things work in all places, in all times. People change, the media world changes, what is acceptable vs. unacceptable changes. Any regulations that are put into place are responsive to that: pragmatism is looking at the most practical resolution to a problem in a particular moment. Unlike earlier in metaphysical philosophy where truth is this capital t thing that is transcending and waiting to be discovered. Pragmatists claim that truths depend on the degree to which a concept or theory provides us with useful results in the process of solving problems.
