Located between 10-20 north or south of equator. Commonly show deciduous habit (i. e. leafless during the dry season). Rather defined by altitude; persistent cloud cover. 500-4,000m above sea level (depending on location). Deforestation and forest degradation in tropical forests accounts for ~13-17% total man-made emissions. To mitigate climate change, rates of tropical deforestation and forest degradation must be slowed. Instead of promoting development activities that entail forest degradation/ deforestation. Promote forest conservation, sustainable forest management, and enhancement of carbon stocks. Negotiated within unfccc in 2005, at the 11th conference of the parties. A payment for ecosystem services (carbon) scheme. A complete removal of all forest biomass from the landscape. Complete removal of all standing carbon storage at a given site. Not a complete removal of forest biomass/ carbon. A reduction in forest carbon density at a given site.
