Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Community Organizing:
- CBOs: non-profit, non-governmental, community-based organizations that address community
needs, often within a neighborhood
- Role of CBOs in meeting the needs of urban residents and in community development
- Function of CBOs?
- Why do communities organize?
- What are organizing practices?
Community Organizations:
-5 types of Community Organizations:
oSelf-help
oPartnership
oCo-production
oPressure
oProtest
Types of Community Organizations:
-Self-help
oAddress issues pertaining to that specific community
oFocus on internal community issues
oLittle to no external support from government or other organizations
oExample: urban communes
oOut-dated
oInternational development
oMaking a community that is self-sufficiency
oInformal, and do not have a huge board of directors
oIntentional communities
oEx.: LA Ecovillage Commune
