They are dark on top and the feathers are all white. Scaled feet to help hold on to slippery fish. On the back of its head is a golden colour. As a juv. they look like juv. bald eagles. They have a buffy patch on the tail. When they fly they have their wings out straight and are shorter. Takes them a while to get that white colour on the head. Eagles and vultures are the largest birds in the sky. Black wing tips and mostly white body from the underneath. It has a small head/bill compared to its wings. Its head is larger in proportion to its body. Its tail is more round compared to the sharp-shinned. It sounds like a larger bird where as the sharp-shinned sounds like a smaller bird. Note: in hawks the females are usually larger than the males. Has a short tail relative to its body.
