Document Summary

Interspecific interactions form the basis of biotic communities. They often involve strategies that are antagonistic or mutualistic. Competition of resources may occur within and between species. Coevolutionary relationships involve genetically based reciprocal adaptation in two or more interacting species. Individuals in one species become better adapted when another species exerts pressure on that species, this adaptation can, in turn put pressure back on the first species. Predation: interaction between predatory animals and the animal prey they consume. Herbivory: interactions between herbivorous animals and the plants they eat. Animals have diverse adaptations to select, locate, capture and ingest an appropriate diet. Size too small to be considered food or too large for predators to successfully attack and kill. Vigilance animals often keep a sharp lookout for approaching predators; animal groups benefit from a multitude of eyes and ears detecting approaching danger. Freeze and camouflage many animals are cryptic and camouflaged so they cant be distinguished from their backgrounds.
