Document Summary
These are the 4 layers of the tube that goes from mouth to anus. Though the esophagus doesn"t have the first layer but has the rest 3. Mucosa: epithelial and glandular cells, inner layer, inside the tube, often secrets something or absorbs nutrients/ vitamins, lines inside of gut. Muscularis muscular tissue: 2 layers talks about the direction of the fibres. Longitudinal layer: oblique layer only found in stomach. Serosa: on the outside, lubricating double membrane system of connective tissue, the outside and inside layer is attached, continuous with mesentery, lines the entire abdominal cavity, for protection. If the stomach punctured and the deadly hydrochloric acid leaked out it wouldn"t leak out in the whole abdominal cavity it would get caught in this. Sphincters: powerful rings of smooth muscle form valves between major regions of the digestive tract, control passage of digestive contents, they stop back movement, control what enter the abdominal cavity, involuntary.
