Document Summary
Primary growth of all non-woody plants needs: (primary meristem) sam + ram (secondary meristem) vc + ground meristem. @ region of differentiation/maturation: cells have attained mature size & function -> all primary tissue and its cells are recognizable and functional e. g. epidermis is fully functional and the vascular cambium has started to produce primary xylem and phloem. @ region of mitotic cd: shoot apical meristem is actively multiplying -> producing young non-meristematic & meristematic cells. Procambium: prototype of cambium -> once @ region of differentiation -> will dev into vascular cambium. Ground meristem: cells that can be totipotent activated to pdc cells needed downstream. Shoot vs root: (centre of stem) parenchyma cell/pith vs x (centre is fully filled up w/ xylem tissue); x vs. Endoderm pericycle (purple = endoderm // light blue = pericycle) > xylem, phloem & vascular cambium connect (shoot) Ve of primary growth: too weak to support large plants.
