Document Summary
Plant nutrition and soils: nutrients necessary for plant life, nutrient availability in soils, nutrient uptake by plants, biotic helpers for plant nutrient uptake, nutrients necessary for plant life. Basic plant needs: sugar: co2, h2o, light, h2o, o2, nutrients. Essential nutrients: absence of essential nutrients prevents plant from completing its life cycle. Macronutrient: required in relatively large amounts eg. nitrogen, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon. Micronutrient: required in relatively small amounts eg. chlorine, iron, boron, manganese, sodium, zinc, copper, nickel, molybdenum. N-p-k the most important limiting factor which we need to add to make plants healthy. Building blocks of life: amino acids proteins. Plants without symbiotic bacteria can only access nitrate in order to grow once it has been build up in the soil. If there is an access to nitrate beyond what is needed for plants to take up, there is another group of free living bacteria which use nitrate as a source of energy to live.
