Document Summary
Phylogeny is the evolutionary history of a species or a group of species. Systematics are focused on classifying organisms and finding their evolutionary relationship. They use fossils, morphology, molecules genes and dna. Data for testing homologous vs. analogous relationship. They can be confusing- some do not accuratley reflect the type of organism (jellyfish- it is not a fish and it doesn"t have jelly) Lady bird (ladybug) is not a bug and is a beetle. To avoid ambiguity we use latin scientific names. Linneaus also grouped them into a hierarchy of inclusive catergories. There are several species withing the panthera genus panthera pardus (leopard), panthera leo (african lion), panthera tigris (tiger), panthera onca (jaguar) Related species are grouped into the same genera. Example: person in an apartment, in a building with many apartments, on a steet with amny apartment buildings, ina city with many streets etc.
