This group includes all those species more closely related to homo sapiens than to any other living great ape. They found a bunch that were not human (hippos, mastodon), and that tells you that this is an old site. The cranium was clearly human, small canines, but a jaw suggestive of ape affinities. This went along with the hypothesis that the brain evolved first. Reconstruction shows proganthic jaw (ape like jaw)
