39 views2 pages

Document Summary

The story surrounds a harsh betrayal as a birthday girl wakes up in the morning to eventually discover her boyfriend"s infidelity. In the first few opening lines of the story the narrator has already put us in the room and we get an idea of what has transpired. She uses colloquialism when describing the taste of smirnoff ice" in her mouth, to illustrate that she had been drunk the previous night. The writer instills certain phrases that exemplify her hangover, such as my head throbs" and i drag my sore body and stand up on shaky legs". Once she has that image painted of the scenario, she makes a reference to time and adds a casual statement: it"s official- my teenage years have come to an end", rather than simply stating that it is her birthday. Reading on she narrates having thrown up and relieving last night"s party". Again, she indirectly alludes to events from the previous day.
