Green beans & barbie dolls is told in first person through the voice of an eleven year old child who witnesses what went on with her best friend steph and her family. The story is quite moving as the child narrates her story she explains briefly about each of the characters in her best friend"s life that impact her the most. She observes steph"s father, asserting that because he work"s night shifts he remains tired throughout the day. Steph"s dad it could be presumed that his impatient and grumpy demeanour may have been a result of this. Nonetheless, steph does not like talking about him, according to the narrator. Another character the narrator mentions is steph"s grandfather. This along with other sentences she uses consequentially paints a picture of the type of character her grandfather is. The writer uses simple sentences that describe characters and the surroundings to create images.
