SOC301H5 Lecture 3: Lecture 3
Document Summary
What is his main argument: kingston pen is not as good at imitating punishment, taking foucault and what he predicts, it"s not as foucault said. How does he support that argument: the prison system was not replicated throughout society, but society was replicated within the prison system, he supports this argument by saying that punishment within the prison was cruel and harsh. He also argues that it"s not working like it"s supposed to it"s not curing criminality. We see the same people coming through the system. The idea that women were separate, they were subordinates, not useful, so again replication women"s role in society within the prison. What sources/theories does he rely on: ignatif, foucault. What features of prison emerged from the historical readings: religion, solitary confinement, morality, this theory that this prison can reform. Need to be proper, because you could be corrected.
