Document Summary

Independent variable is on the x asis , and your units of measure appear from an increasing order from left to right. Each dot might represent more than 1 observation if there are 2 observations that share the exactly same values. As increasing on the independent variable (x axis) we are decreasing on the y axis. Sample: a selection of observations that come from a population. Population: the set of all possible data values that could be observed in what you are studying. Characteristics of a population: they are called population parameters (summarizing a characteristic of a population) When we summarize or theorize about the characteristics of a sample: it is called statistic. 2 kinds of sampling in research: non-probability sampling selecting your observations in a manner that does not ensure the results are generalizable to the target population. Probability sampling: aim: to provide an accurate descripition of the population under study without having to study an entire population.
