Your sex: depends on whether you were born with male or female genitals and a genetic program that released male or female hormones to stimulate development of your reproductive system. Your gender: refers to culturally and socially constructed differences between females and males found in the meanings, beliefs, and practices associated with femininity and masculinity. Identification with, or sense of belonging to a particular sex (biologically, psychologically, socially) Gender ideologies: set of ideas about what constitutes appropriate masculine and feminine roles and behaviours. Heteronormativity: holds that heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation, and assumes an alignment between biological sex, gender identity, and gender roles. Gender discrimination - discrimination on females; ex. Female athlete is good but people question if she is a male. Occupational sex segregation - women selecting themselves into gender jobs with lower pay; ex. Men aim for corporate law, females aim for family law.
