People communicating face to face or via computer, acting and reacting to one another. Norms - generally accepted way of doing things. Obeying feeling rules and responding appropriately to situations. Example: we are expected to mourn the end of a love relationship and shedding tears is completely natural. Emotion management that many people do as part of their job and for which they are paid. Example: teachers dealing with students who talk during class, hand assignments in late. Dealing with other people"s misbehaviour, anger, rudeness, and unreasonable demands (e. g. sales clerks, nurses, flight attendants) Competing for attention (e. g. taking turns during a conversation to make conversation possible) Social interaction involves competition over valued resources (e. g. attention, approval, prestige, information, money) Competitive interaction involves people seeking to gain the most, socially, emotionally, and economically, while paying the least. Degree of inequality affects character of social dominance. Seeing yourself from the point of view of the people with whom you interact.
