Social strati cation is the way society is organized in layers or strata. The titanic is a great indication that classes determined that women and children were given a more important standing and more women and children survived that man. Strati cation helps us understand di erent classes and gaps in society. Strati cation doesn"t have to be by class, it can be by gender, race, or caste. Not about how society comes together but how society di erentiates. Is the amount of money earned in a given period. Usually includes a dwelling, a car, some appliances, and furniture, and some savings . Wealth is power or the ability to achieve goals. Income and wealth often go together but not always. There is a lot of resistance to welfare state. The reason why a lot of people are unhappy because of raising taxes is because raising taxes results in inequality (the rich don"t get bene ts and the poor do)
