Social interaction: involves people communicating face to face or via computer, acting and reacting in relation to other people: people with higher status(men) get more laughs, while lower status(women) laugh more. Conflict theory and interaction: social interaction is all about how we communicate (verbally and non-verbally) and how people respond to one another, many aspects of society are the result of interaction between people. Interaction as competition and exchange: derber"s analysis is influenced by conflict theory, which holds that social interaction involves competition over valued resources. Such resources include attention, approval, prestige, information, moneyetc: according to conflict theory, competitive interaction involves people seeking to gain the most - socially, emotionally, and economically, while paying the least. Chapter 4: social interaction three factors: norms of solidarity demand conformity, when we form relationship with friends, loversetc, we develop shared idea, or norms of solidarity, about how we should behave toward them to sustain the relationship.
