Document Summary

Short answer you can use point form. They are acceptable, but you are responsible for any differences. Readings to omit: can you post them before class. The nervous system (ns) contacts every organ and muscle. Building blocks of the ns are cells; most important being the nerve cells or neurons. Neuron doctrine: (1) the brain is composed of separate neurons and other cells that are independent structurally, metabolically, and functionally; (2) information is transmitted from cell to cell across tiny gaps, which were later called synapses. 1) central ns: consist of the brain and spinal cord. 2) peripheral ns: all parts of the ns that are outside the body skill and spinal column. 1) somatic nervous system: part of the ns that interacts with the environment: afferent: carry sensory signals from body to cns, efferent: carry motor signals from cns to body. 2) autonomic ns: spans both central & peripheral ns. Nerve: collection of axons bundled together outside the cns.
