Document Summary

Genetic and environment effects on personality: the evidence. About 40-50 % of variance is due to genetic variation but these use cheap self-report methods and they can sometimes have response bias. We control for these bias by using self-report and informant ratings. One things that is stable throughout life is genetics and your personality is also somewhat genetically influenced. Twin studies show that shared environment doesn"t matters very much in relation to personality traits. It does show shared environment effects in some situations (for example smoking ) Parents who smoke are more likely to have children who smoke. There is a big difference between mz and dz when in different environments. There is no genetic difference in the mz so the difference in correlation between mz together and apart are showing effects of shared environment. There is a r=. 8 correlation between attending religious services between you and your mother.
