More often researchers have used correlation coefficients as a measure of relatedness. Two approaches produce similar results (reisenzein & schimmack, Factor analysis is a complex mathematical procedure to group variables. Moderate to strongly correlated variables are grouped together (sign does not matter) Weakly or uncorrelated variables are kept separate. Example: factor 1: + curious, + creative, factor 2: + talkative, + energetic. + over talkative, + over energetic, - over shy. The meaning of the labels may be misleading.
