PSY220H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Deindividuation, Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster, Group Polarization
Document Summary
Why do we seem so well suited to be in groups. The influence of the group on the individual: how they think and how they behave. A collective organization with full division of labor, including individuals who gather no food, but are fed by others, or who are prepared to sacrifice themselves for the defense of others. We make up the biggest group on eartth. So we have things like the military to protect us and others that have other jobs- we all work together. Really defined by 1000s (or millions) of individuals living together in all other ultrasocial species (bees are considered one), individuals are closely related, we are not. We live in these huge groups with others we are not related to. For example, a family is very interdependent. E. g people in a class, people on a but. A collection of individuals who have relations to one another that make them interdependent to some degree.
