Document Summary

Niko tinbergen (ethologist): said there"s 4 different things you need to know about phenomenon if you want to understand. Proximate causes (what"s happening now in someone"s life that have led to these behaviours/phenomenon) What changes occurred over a species evolution that led the behaviour to have it"s current form. (ex. A radio what did it look like vs. how"s they"ve evolved to look like how they do today) What is the value of a particular behaviour for survival and reproduction? (ex. Historical views (reflects deep historical root of the nature vs. nurture debate) Plato: experience triggers of knowledge of concrete objects, such as animals, and abstract concepts, such as courage. Somewhere inside of us, at birth, was a knowledge of objects and all we need is to encounter those in the real world for that knowledge to emerge. (nature!) Aristotle: knowledge is acquired through our senses through experience. Our abilities are not innate, they"re something we gain. (nurture!)
