POL369Y5 Lecture 8: POL369-Lecture 8
Document Summary
Sometimes bias is happening but we wont even see it because it conforms to reality: example: journalists usually try to choose news, which are high, impact, a lot of conflict, it"s close to us, timely and novel (something we are unaware of) over ones that people don"t really need to know about, if there were 2 events, the first one was highly newsworthy and the second one is less newsworthy. Note: news coming out of a that is objective and not bias, and c that has a selection bias and is bias will look the same: news organization d has a pro government presentation bias. they are not bias in their selection criteria and choose the first story but they spin the story in such a way to depart from reality to reduce the damage it does to the government.
