Because of its smallness and its targetedness, very often alternative media carries a stronger ideological message than you might find in mainstream mass media. Alternative media often aim to challenge existing power structures of society, which includes a challenge in mainstream representation of marginalized groups. Example: newspaper called a socialist worker, a revolutionary anti-capitalist newspaper published by the international socialists. We ask ourselves sometime why there is an alternative media.
