It"s not a physical journey, it"s an intellectual journey. Education is not a content, doesn"t matter how much information you learn, it"s the turning of one"s soul towards the content (ex you don"t get the lesson being taught because your eyes haven"t adjusted to it yet). Education is like that, it is painful, there is a reluctance of individuals to go through that pain: can"t be dragged along. You must do it yourself, you must give up the shadows yourself. If you don"t then you"re stuck in the shadows: the philosophers have no reason to enter back into the cave, no compulsion. 50 they will become rulers, they won"t spend time on philosophical pursuits, but rather ruling: those who have spent too much time in the shadows would be lousy students. Ideal polis in practice will collapse and decline eventually because it is in the world of becoming (everything decays), will take a while to degenerate.
