POL200Y5 Lecture Notes - Meletus, Socratic Method, Natural Philosophy
Document Summary
Euthyprho meets socrates near the king- archons court. Socrates is under indictment by meletus for corrupting the gods and not believing in the gods with whom the city believes in. At the same time, euthyphro is prosecuting his father for the murder of another murderer, a labour man who worked for him. Socrates says it is good that meletus is getting rid of who are polluting the youth, he says that. Meletus has become a source of blessings for the city. Euthyphro is skeptical of this statement, says that he thinks meletus is harming the city by doing this. Socrates is being charged for what he is, because he continually claims that the devine signs keep appearing to him. Euthyphro says that prosecuting his father is not impious because there is no difference if a victim is a family member or a stranger, the pollution is the same.
