The two readings designed to give sense of 2 diff fundamental approaches to looking at individuals in society. Some of us are born into lower economic position. Don"t play sports as well as some people: those who try to pursue cosmic (social) justice. Goals in terms of equalizing sometimes goals are impossible to ibtain. No matter how many times you try to balance things out. In the pursuit of these impossible goals are being extremely wasteful of scarce public resources. Ex: upgrading wheelchair access in buildings causes lots of money: pursuit of cosmic justice is, most importantly, wants us to think how socially dangerous ideas and policies are. What is or is not legitimate discrimination. Just focusing on outcome: accidents of history that push people in certain directions, some workplaces are clearly discrim against women b/c they are trying to protect women for their best interest. Didn"t want women working on car batteries on production line.
